COVID 19 NYC 03/20-05/20
These images are born from bearing witness to the suffering and resilience of New Yorkers as their lives are transformed by a world infected by the pandemic. There is a unity in our isolation as we shelter in tight spaces and socially separate to conform to society’s new rules for safety. Visually, I am drawn to the masked faces of the young and old as their masks deprive them of natural breath, muffle their voices and hides their expressions. The following images were captured in the first months of lockdown when masks were rarely worn by children and the emotional consequences of isolation and fear had taken it toll as the numbers hit new highs each day…
